Rates run from Rs 3,500 to Rs 9,000 per night. Rooms facing inner shafts are dark, and street noise from walking crowds carries until late evening. Unless staying at a top-tier hotel with private porter service from Cart Road lifts, these staircases are exhausting.
If you prefer central Shimla, choose a hotel near the Tourism Lift on Cart Road, allowing direct elevator access to Mall Road without carrying luggage up 150 stone steps.

What it costs to actually get there

Winter (December to February) completely alters the landscape. Manali receives heavy snowfall, often blocking the Rohtang Pass completely and limiting vehicle movement around town.
